Extreme weather continues to hit China. On the evening of April 18, Chongqing was suddenly hit by strong winds accompanied by hail the size of chicken eggs. Some residents said that hail that size is very dangerous if it hits a person, and can even cause death.
Videos circulating on the internet show the sound of hail hitting the ground hard. Some of it breaks into small pieces, while the ground is immediately covered with white chunks of ice. One resident showed a basket full of hail that had been collected — some the size of chicken eggs, some even bigger.

At 22:30 on April 18, 2025, the Chongqing Municipal Meteorological Administration issued an extreme weather warning. It is estimated that from 22:30–00:30 that night, 12 districts including Yuzhong, Shapingba, Dadukou, Jiulongpo, Nanan, High-tech Zone, Yubei, Beibei, Banan, Hechuan, Bishan, and Jiangjin will experience thunderstorms with strong winds of level 8–9 or hail. The area is also likely to be accompanied by short-term heavy rain and lightning strikes.
An orange-level hail warning was also issued by the Wansheng Economic and Development Zone Meteorological Administration at 18:00, stating that hail had already occurred in Heishan City. It is estimated that from 18:00 on April 18 to 00:00 on April 19, hail will continue to occur in ten cities and villages such as Wandong, Donglin, Wansheng, Jinqiao, Conglin, Guanba, Shilin, Qingnian, Heishan, and Nantong, accompanied by strong winds, lightning, and short-term heavy rain. This extreme weather has the potential to cause hail disasters.
