#20YearsOfMunir

The protesters of #20YearsofMunir Case raided and sealed the office of Komnas HAM in Central Jakarta, Friday (6/9) afternoon.

Monitoring at the location, the protesters put sealing stickers on the main door of the Komnas HAM building.

The demonstrators demanded that Komnas HAM immediately thoroughly investigate the murder case of human rights activist Munir Said Thalib.

They also urged the government to immediately determine Munir's case as a serious human rights violation and not an ordinary murder case.

Coordinator of the Sub-Commission for the Advancement of Human Rights, Anis Hidayah, who approached the protesters after holding an audience with 15 representatives of community alliances, was also seen being detained after entering after the main gate of the Komnas HAM office was padlocked by the masses.

"I'll go to work later to complete the investigation, because the office is sealed," said Anis with a chuckle.

Anis further confirmed that Komnas HAM's stance continues to consider Munir's murder as an incident of serious human rights violations in Indonesia, which is important for Komnas HAM to investigate thoroughly and solve it.

He also stated his investigation and commitment to resolving this case to ensure that there is no impunity and to ensure that similar incidents do not recur, especially for human rights defenders in Indonesia.

"In January 2023, Komnas HAM formed an ad hoc team to investigate serious human rights violations in Munir's murder, and to this day we are still working to complete the investigation process," he explained.

Anies said they had summoned a number of witnesses and were continuing to collect a number of comparative and supporting documents as evidence.

He also confirmed that Komnas HAM is committed to resolving this case so that this investigation is concluded and the results will be submitted to the Attorney General's Office.

"Hopefully our friends will continue to remind us," said Anis. "On behalf of Komnas HAM, I apologize if the process we carried out was considered long-winded, considered to have taken a lot of time.

But we really need time to ensure the investigation process can run," he added.
